Dr. Saira Yamin is a conflict resolution analyst and practitioner, an academic and a development worker with nineteen years of experience. Her dissertation research, a comparative case-study of eight states in Africa, South Asia, and the Middle East contributes to a better understanding of failed and fragile contexts and proposes an enhanced theoretical and strategic framework to guide research, policy, and practice. Her prior research examines a range of issues related to peace and conflict in different world regions and has been published widely.
Saira has worked extensively in the development sector, advocating human rights for women and children in Pakistan. She has held senior management positions with local as well as international NGOs such as ActionAid. Currently, she teaches at the Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies in Honolulu, HI. Previously she has taught graduate and undergraduate students at the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, George Mason University, VA, and at Quaid-e-Azam University - Pakistan's premier academic institution. Additionally, she has delivered guest lectures at the University of Peshawar, University of Karachi, and at the American University, Washington D.C. Saira has been involved with Women in Security Conflict Management and Peace (WISCOMP), New Delhi, as a resource person at its annual Conflict Transformation workshops.
