Biography

Sahar is the Director of Iran Projects and is a Research Associate at the Center for World Religions, Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution at George Mason University. Since 2005, while being selected as a Sauvé Scholar at McGill University, she has pursued research and written about domestic and international conflicts related to Iran. She is completing her PhD in Conflict Analysis and Resolution focused on peacebuilding and nonviolence movements. She is a journalist with fifteen years of professional experience with top independent and nongovernmental media in Iran and later in the United States. Sahar began her career in journalism when she was 19, when she finished her studies at the school of journalism and then a Bachelor’s Degree in French Literature, starting as a political reporter at Salam daily newspaper, then the only independent reformist newspaper in Iran. She continued social journalism while writing her Master’s thesis on Religions and Human Rights. She has been the editor of top newspapers in Iran such as Shargh, Ham-Mihan, Bonyan, and Bahar. She has published hundreds of editorials and analytical reports on Iran’s conflicts, religious and cultural conflicts, ethnic minorities, students and women’s movements, civil society in Iran and the international arena.
