Krystal Thomas

Krystal M. Thomas is a dual Masters degree student at L-Università ta’ Malta
and George Mason University. Graduating December 2014, Ms. Thomas will receive a M.S. in Conflict Analysis and Resolution as well as a M.A. in Conflict Resolution and Mediterranean Security. While studying abroad in Malta for a year, Ms. Thomas developed an interest in analyzing conflicts based on identity and unjust social systems in order to empower others to move towards positive social change. Ms. Thomas has conducted research analyzing the impact of negative stereotyping on identity formation in the United States and Indonesia. Ms. Thomas presented her research at the National Conference for Undergraduate Research in 2013 and has work featured in the Office of Student Scholarship, Creative Arts, and Research. Ms. Thomas’ most recent work was her Masters thesis on the experience of members of the Roma community residing within the European Union. More specifically, Ms. Thomas’ work analyzing how the history of conflict between the Roma and non-Roma communities impacts the formation of Roma identity in social policies. Ms. Thomas hopes to continue her mission to create opportunities for those experiencing conflict to have their voices heard and be empowered to participate in efforts of peacebuilding for positive change. Currently, Ms. Thomas is interning at Community Without Boundaries International.
