Searching for Elijah in Alaska
OK, I need to be honest with you. Having a daughter living in Alaska is difficult for my wife and me. There isn't a large Jewish community in Alaska in general, and the community in Denali National Park in particular is very small.
My daughter and I have discussed this a number of times, but the call of nature and the beautiful scenery are top priorities in her life - and it is truly spectacular out there.
So, you can well imagine our joy when last year she asked us to join her for a seder during Pesach. We flew up during chol hamoed, the intermediate days of Pesach, and one of the locals used only kosher-for-Pesach ingredients, new pots and paper plates and prepared a beautiful seder meal on the fourth night of the holiday.
