Writing Workshop: Introduction to Academic Writing
Tuesday, April 1st
4:30pm-7:00pm
Conference room 5145
Instead of dreading your final papers, comprehensive exams, thesis and dissertation proposals, learn how to structure an academic argument!
This 3 hour workshop taught by Professor Cobb will provide participants an opportunity to examine three types of academic argumentation that can be used to build the logic structure of an academic paper, thesis, or dissertation.
These three genres of argumentation will be explored and examples will be provided. Drawing on Booth’s The Craft of Research, we will discuss the nature of a “problem statement” and how it functions as the warrant, the justification, for the argument.
This workshop is intended for any graduate student who would like to learn more about structuring an academic argument. It is FREE, and does not require any materials, although Booth’s book is recommended.
