This event is hosted by the Center for the Study of Narrative and Conflict Resolution (CNCR) and features Freek Janssens, a Doctoral Candidate from University of Amsterdam. In the shadow of the 2012 London Olympics, the local London Council wishes to demolish Britain's most ethnically diverse market, and replace it with a supermarket. Traders have protested this decision. They do so by successfully presenting counter narratives to the Council's discourse of a dirty and smelly market. These tactics enable them to evade the scrutiny of the Council while providing avenues for political participation. This presentation will address the dynamics of narrative politics.
