Interested in going to Bahia, Brazil to learn about land conflicts? Come to an information session with KC Soares to discuss the upcoming course, along with students who attended a similar course in Bahia in the Spring 2014 Semester.
The Brazil Service Learning Intensive is being coordinated through the Solidarity Economics Program of the EAUFBA. The SCAR student team will work together in the field with English speaking and other members of the Solidarity Economics program to address long-standing conflicts related to land ownership between wealth landowners and the quilomba communities in the Vally of Iguape, Bahia that is creating unrest and impeding the development of the communities involved.
The purpose of this service learning intensive is to allow SCAR students the opportunity to work, interact, and provide professional services in a culture other than their own. The SCAR students will be working with the team from the federal university and with members of the quilomba communities as part of this field work.
If you are unable to make the info session on Monday, a session will be held on Tuesday, September 9th at 4:00pm as well.
