What is a Degree in Conflict Analysis and Resolution?

In the most basic sense, a degree in conflict analysis and resolution is a degree in problem solving. 

Through coursework and field experience, students learn how to critically and holistically analyze problems at multiple societal levels and identify underlying causes of conflict. Students also learn various approaches and techniques of intervention and are able to develop a variety of resolution skills, such as communication, mediation, facilitation, and negotiation.

What We Offer

The School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution offers the first undergraduate major in Conflict Analysis and Resolution at a Virginia public institution, as well as the first in the Washington, D.C. metro area. Partnership with the College of Humanities and Social SciencesNew Century College, and other units allows this program to draw on the interdisciplinary strengths and focus of George Mason University.

Faculty research and practice specializations include peace processes, globalization, cultural aspects of conflict, mediation and dialogue, terrorism, religion and conflict, identity and other roots of conflict, and various conflicts in the United States and worldwide. 
 


Major

S-CAR offers both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Conflict Analysis and Resolution. The BA requires intermediate proficiency in one foreign language and is best suited for students who are interested in working with international populations. The BS focuses on enhancing research skills and is appropriate for students interested in statistical or analytical work. Minor

The 18-credit minor in Conflict Analysis and Resolution is a great complement to any major and provides an additional opportunity to enhance critical career skills, such as strong communication and problem solving. Each minor requires 8 unique credits, but you may find that some requirements may be able to count for both your major and minor. Accelerated Master's

We offer an accelerated Master's degree option for high-achieving undergraduates majoring in Conflict Analysis and Resolution. Undergraduate students accepted into the competative program can earn up to 12 credits towards their Master's degree at undegraduate tuition rates.
