• Graduating students should arrive at the Center for Arts no later than 5:00 p.m. with your green robes, hats, etc. and proceed to the staging area (staff will guide you to the correct location). Please keep in mind that it is expected to be rainy and stormy and this may affect traffic for the late afternoon and early evening. Convocation Speakers (Undergraduate, Graduate, and PhD speakers please arrive by 4:45 to have time to practice your speeches)
• In addition, you will be responsible for all of your belongings throughout the event; we don’t have any secure locations for purses, book bags, etc. I would suggest you leave these items with your family before the ceremony begins.
• The doors will open for family and friends seating at 5:45 p.m. The ceremony will begin at 6:30 and will last approximately two and a half hours.
• Please note that food and drinks are not allowed in the staging area. I would highly encourage you to get a snack or perhaps dinner prior to your arrival as the event will be approximately four hours in total.
• Tickets are not required for the Convocation ceremony on Thursday, May 12, and you may have as many friends and family as you would like to invite to attend the event!
• If you have not done so, you may purchase your cap and gowns at the Fairfax University Bookstore.
• If you have sent us information regarding family members who will need assistance in terms of seating, or you have family members that need assistance, please check with the CFA usher when you arrive as they will have reserved areas/seating for these family members.
If you have additional questions, please check the George Mason University Commencement Page!
