The End of American Influence in the World?

Dr. Michael Shank, associate director for legislative affairs at the Friends Committee on National Legislation and adjunct faculty at George Mason University's School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, discusses the possible end of American influence in the world and how the US can restore its social, economic, and diplomatic standing. How can the US regain its once-prized influence and leadership status? America is no longer the superpower it once was, whether socially, economically, or diplomatically. While still militarily dominant–US defense spending is roughly double the combined defense spending of the rest of the world–recent US wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Pakistan, Somalia, and Libya have undermined and eroded US standing on these continents and within their respective cultures.
