William Cunningham

Dr. William G. Cunningham, Jr., has been named dean of students at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, it was announced by University Provost Dr. Russell J. DiGate. Dr. Cunningham had been serving as assistant dean for student development in the University’s Philadelphia College of Pharmacy since 2003.

“I am confident that William will bring not only his skills as a student advocate and advisor to this position, but also his energy,” said Dr. DiGate. “With his years of experience in student advising and counseling in the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, I am sure he will hit the ground running in his new position.”

As dean of students, Dr. Cunningham will oversee a Student Affairs division that includes Campus Recreation, Student Health and Counseling, Career Services, Center for Community Connections, Multicultural Affairs, International Student Advising, Student Conduct, Student Life, Residential Living, Off-Campus Living, Greek Life, and Student Activities.

An assistant professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Business, Dr. Cunningham teaches courses on business negotiation, coordinates pharmacy orientation, and researches negotiation, crisis management, and conflict resolution. Prior to joining the University in 2003, he held numerous roles at American University from 1989 to 2003, most recently serving as assistant director in Judicial Affairs and Mediation Services from 2000-03. Dr. Cunningham also serves as an adjunct professor in the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University in Fairfax, Va.

“I am excited about the opportunity to work with the staff of Student Affairs to fulfill its mission of developing students as ethical and intellectual leaders in science and healthcare,” Dr. Cunningham said. “I am also looking forward to working with students across campus to help them achieve their academic, personal and professional goals, and to collaborating with colleagues to achieve our shared goals for students and the University.”

Dr. Cunningham earned a PhD from George Mason University, a master of literature degree from University of Auckland, and a master of arts degree from American University.

Dr. Cunningham, who is a native of Madison, N.J., currently resides in Montgomery County, Pa. with his family.
