Ilana L. Shapiro
Ilana was born in NYC, but grew up in the gentler jungles of Maui. She eventually fled paradise for the heady political landscape of D.C. to study and work in the tangled fields of psychology,violence prevention, and peacebuilding. Her research and practice have taken her to conflict zones around the world.
Along the way Ilana earned a couple of Ph.Ds - one in Social Psychology from Charles University, Czech Republic and a second in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from George Mason University in Northern Virginia. She co-founded and directed the Alliance for Conflict Transformation (ACT), a non-profit organization dedicated to building peace through innovative research and practice. She also served as Director of the Psychology of Peace and Violence doctoral program at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
