Legacy of Rape: Public Art Exhibition
Sexual Violence in Armed Conflict
Center for the Study of Gender and Conflict (CGC) is hosting a public art exhibition at George Mason University’s Arlington Campus.
The 106 inches wide by 77 inches high panels are placed along the hallways of Founders Hall, located
at 3301 Fairfax Drive, Arlington, VA 22201.
In partnership with PROOF Media for Social Justice, a non-governmental organization based in New
York that uses visual storytelling for genocide prevention and peacebuilding, this exhibition will serve
three primary purposes:
1. To remind the international community of the human costs of conflict-related sexual violence
and by doing so prompt attention, response, and accountability.
2. To give the public an opportunity to closely view the art display; each piece is enlarged in
order to tell untold stories of acts of moral courage as well as document injustice and human
rights abuses.
Other noteworthy partners making this event possible include George Mason University’s Student
Association for Gender and Conflict and the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution (S-CAR).
