Dissertation Proposal Defense - Robbie Wellington
Sexual Orientation as a Cross-Cutting Identity in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
Tues, Jan. 27th,
3:00pm - 4:00pm
Metropolitan Building, room 5145
A great deal of research has been done on identity and conflict, but the use of cross-cutting identities as a means of conflict resolution is a largely untapped tool in the field. Even less research has been done on sexual orientation as a cross-cutting identity and even less still within the context of Israel-Palestine. This research seeks to better understand the lived experiences of GLBT Palestinians and Israelis and to see if their shared, oppressed identity of being GLBT brings them together as a cross-cutting identity or if other conflicting identities such as nationality, ethnicity, and religion supersede sexual orientation.
