Another woman who felt a need to move her life in a new direction is Toronto-based lawyer Hind Kabawat. And she has done so with spectacular results. This past October, Ms. Kabawat received an impressive distinction in Sarajevo, Bosnia -- the 2007 Women's Peace Initiative Award, given by the New York-based Tannenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding, itself part of Bill Clinton's Global Peace Initiative. A Syrian-Canadian who divides her time between Toronto and Damascus, Ms. Kabawat was singled out for her work cultivating grass-roots sectarian debate between Arabs and Israelis, as well as Sunnis, Shias, Christians and Jews across the Middle East.
